Protein PowderAs a part of some slimming programmes patients are given protein powders. That powder can be taken as a substitute of the food or sprinkled on the food. Because of that the S.D.A. of protein would burn away the excess fat. Dr. Gelvin carried out an experiment on two groups of patients. One group was advised to take balanced diet of 1200 calories. The other group was recommended to take protein powder as a substitute for some portion of food. It must be fixed that in either case the calories must not exceed 1200. After two months, when the patients were examined Dr. Glevin found that there was not much difference in the rate of weight reduction. Out of two groups one group has 15 patients and the another one has 13 patients.Duration of experiment was same for both groups and it was of 8 weeks. First group was under balanced diet of 1200 calories and second one was under balanced diet of 1200 calories but inclusive of protein powder. Average weight loss in every week was for first group 0.9 pounds and for another group it was 1.2 pounds. First group didn't have any side effects but second one has 38% of side effects. This is because they have problems like nausea, vomitting, constipation and burning sensetion in the stomach. So the rate of weight loss can be increased by taking protein powder. But due to its side effects it is advisable to start taking it only under medical supervision. |
